The paper museum in Fabriano with kids

Fabriano is well known for being the birthplace of the so called Gentile, a painter who lived between 1300 and 1400, among the most important artists of the Gothic art. Maybe not everyone knows that paper was born in Fabriano, the second most important Italian paper mill born in 1276: it is here now the Museum of Paper and Watermark, where you can watch the process of paper production and also let the children realize their sheet of paper!

In this museum, housed in the former convent of the Dominicans, it is possible to go through many rooms containing old paper mills, the old paper production: there are rags that were left to macerate, the vats and presses and machinery still here today because there’s a modern factory for handmade paper.

If you can book tour visit, there are workshops and guided tours where guides will explain all the way, if you want to take a look see the video of how to make a paper at the Museum, with a three year old child !

How to get there: follow the way to “Museo della carta” when you arrive in Fabriano.
